Our Mission

The mission of the Colquitt County Program for Exceptional Children is to ensure that all students with disabilities have available to them a free appropriate public education that emphasizes special education and related services specifically designed to meet their unique needs and to prepare them for employment and independent living.

Our Philosopy

Special Education services are an integral part of the educational system of the Colquitt County Schools. It is assumed that all students are capable of benefiting from, and have a right to, an educational program that is suitable to their needs. Special Education shares with regular education the basic responsibility of the public educational systems to ensure every student the right to a free, appropriate education.

Program Objectives

A number of objectives have been identified to assure the effective and proficient operation of the Colquitt County Program for Exceptional Children.

These objectives are:

*To establish and maintain effective authorized ways of identifying exceptional children.

*To assess the special needs of children to determine what kinds of special programs and services should be provided for them.

*To plan, organize, and implement an appropriate variety of interventions and/or program alternatives for exceptional children.

*To marshal the resources needed to conduct a comprehensive program of special education.

*To use direction, coordination and consultation as required to guide the efforts of all those who engage in the special education enterprise.

*To conduct, evaluate, and research activities and projects to reflect new emphases and to incorporate new knowledge and constantly improve special instruction and the quality of special services.

*To involve community representatives in planning programs to encourage their understanding and support of the Program for Exceptional Children.

*To conduct programs for staff development, such as in-service or continuing education programs.
